Daniel's Window

Biography

Daniel's Window is going strong and gaining momentum with the release of their first nationally distributed album by Diamante released on True Tunes Records February of 2000. The journey has taken the band from practicing in basements to sharing the stage with bands such as All Star United and The Waiting.

Musically, Daniel's Window is hard to categorize, but well defined. Each band member draws from a diverse group of influences and the entire band shares songwriting duties. There are elements of pop, rock, dance, techno, and of course the electronica that has helped to tie it all together. The sound is uniquely Daniel's Window. The lyrics focus on a variety of topics and experiences, but stay true to the band's spiritual roots. "We speak on a pretty broad range. We talk about the Christian experience and how cool it can be standing with God," says Alby.

As a ministry, Daniel's Window uses their music for much more than just entertaining a new generation of Christians. With each new song they write or perform, they strive to point their fans back to the God who gave them their musical talents. "After almost every concert people will tell us that something we have sung has encouraged them or touched them or given them some direction," vocalist Heather Hershey shares. "Our music points them to God."

Since the very beginning, the band has received recognition from the music industry. Just six months old and after only one live performance together, the band was named finalists at the regional Gospel Music Association competition in Minneapolis. Probably the biggest award for the band came at the 1999 Christian Artists' Seminar in the Rockies. After finishing second in 1998, in both the band and songwriting competitions, they returned the next year and won the band competition. This award gave the band additional exposure and helped them land their recording contract with True Tunes Records.

The Beginning

After spending a year of working to promote herself as a Christian solo artist in the Chicago area, Heather Hershey met guitarist Alby Odum. Alby had been playing the secular Chicago music scene, but was ready for a chance to perform music with an emphasis on God. It didn't take long for them to decide that combining their talents could give them both something they'd been looking for - a band of musical and moral integrity that could spread the message of Christ to today's young people. Bass guitarist Bill Coleman and drummer Jesse Burkhead signed on in August of 1997. Keyboardist Caleb King completed the group in January of 1998.
